Dr. Kahema talks to students at UDSM

Today, our Executive Director Dr. Thomas Kahema gave a lecture to second-year undergraduate philosophy students at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) about TAWESO’s efforts to improve animal well-being in Tanzania. The lecture was followed by a lively discussion.

Presenting at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA)

It was a great honor to present at the East African Assembly (EALA) to the committees of Agriculture, Tourism, and Natural Resources, and also the Committee of Communication, Trade, and Investment.

Our team comprised of Alex Mayers, the Head of Programs at the Donkey Sanctuary (UK), Dr. Thomas W. Kahema, the Executive Director at the Tanzania Animal Welfare Society, and Edie Bowels, the Solicitor at Advocates for Animals (UK).

It was great that the legislators were all positive with good discussions to our presentations on the donkey skin and meat trade in the region.

TAWESO’s 10th anniversary celebrations

It was great to celebrate our 10th anniversary early this year. We were supposed to do it last year but our programs were extremely tight. We marked the event with various activities and show cases of our stakeholders, including school children, donkey owners’ groups, football teams, etc. from all our four country zone centers in the Coast, Lake, Central, and Southern.

Prizes were given to all groups and individuals who did extremely well. One of our strong TAWESO football team defeated Ilolo Rangers by 1-0 in the Central Zone.

The event was proudly sponsored by our long time friends, the SPCA International. We thank all our friends and supporters for making us reach this milestone.
